Cristina Mantas graduated in Architecture from the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (FAUTL) in 1984 and furthered her education with a Master's in Bioclimatic Architecture at the same university between 2003 and 2005.
Her professional career began with an internship at the Henning Larsen’s Tegnestue in Copenhagen, Denmark, through the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE), in 1985. Mantas also gained valuable teaching experience between 1985 and 1989, instructing Visual Education and Drawing in various schools across the Lisbon metropolitan area
Since 1985, Cristina has led architectural, urban design, restoration, and rehabilitation projects in collaboration with her partner, architect Jorge Cruz Pinto. Her professional practice focuses on bioclimatic architecture, blending modern materials and traditional techniques to create sustainable, site-specific designs that reflect her deep understanding of cultural contexts and natural environments.
